Tips for Using Tummy Tub
The first thing to do is prepare all the bathing supplies needed before putting lukewarm water in the tummy tub. Putting these supplies somewhere accessible would be practical so that there will be no need to leave the baby unattended even for a second. Once the water is checked, slide the baby in feet first letting the baby settle before freeing the other hand. Once the baby is soothed by the water, the washing can be done by the free hand. The other hand can support the baby under the chin so their mouth and nose will not accidentally get into the water. In a floating position, the parent can put one hand at the back of the neck.

The tummy tub can be placed on the floor while the parent can stand at the back of it. The parent and the baby should be facing the same direction. Others prefer standing but it could strain the parent’s back. Using a stand that comes with it allows the parent to sit while they are giving the bath which would make bathing time less stressful.
For newborn infants, the water in the tummy tub should reach until it completely covers the baby’s shoulders. Although older babies can have less water for their bath, this is the advisable level of the water so that the chest and back will not be exposed to cold air after being wet. It prevents the baby feeling cold which can also add to their stress while bathing.
